Congratulations, Ellen and Tylor, and thank you both for being so special. Thank you to all the great working dogs who entered, and to all of those who voted. It was tough, tough, tough this month as all of the pictures were just wonderful.
Following is Tylor's story, written by proud DogMom, Ellen:
Tylor who is officially know as Beloved BT Tylor of Shenandoah is a very special Shiloh Shepherd. He is not aloof in any way. In fact, when there's a crowd of people around him, he makes sure to work the crowd. He leaves no one out in seeking attention. He has a habit of leaning into someone and looking up at them with those gorgeous eyes of his. He has his puppydog look, as we call it. "Aren't I cute" is what he's saying. "More, pet me more" is his other look. Not only do we see pediatric patients at Cooper Hospital but we were recently approved to see oncology patients. And while Tylor is one out of 3 certified therapy dogs at Cooper Hospital, he was the only one at the Volunteer luncheon and the only one being recognized at Patient Care Month in a few weeks. You see, he is very impressive and is known throughout the hospital as a very special gentle giant. He is on the movie made about Cooper Hospital and is in their literature about patient care. He even did a photo shoot with a faux patient to be used to promote the hospital. Move over Kelly Ripa!!!!!!
This 4 year old boy does his tricks for each and every patient no matter how many we see in a session at the hospital. We are allowed in the NICU to see the sickest children. One trick he learned on the job is his "hospital voice" which is barely a sound. He does his "big voice" too if the children are not afraid. He brings joy, cuddles, kisses and love to patients as well as their parents who can use it too. He is the furriest ambassador at the hospital and to hear everyone yelling down the hall a big Tylor "hello" is heartwarming.
From the security guards to the Champlain, everyone knows Tylor. Just recently we went in to see a little girl about 8 years old with cerebral palsy. Her roommate wanted to walk Tylor into the room and show him off. Tylor went right over to the little girl and kissed her gently on her cheek. Her whole body stiffened and a huge smile came to her face. When she settled down, Tylor did it again with the same reaction. Everyone was smiling around us and many had tears in their eyes. This little girl had not responded to anything before Tylor came in and kissed her cheek. He knew exactly what she needed and it was a beautiful site to behold. Tylor also goes to Underwood Hospital to a program for behavior problems in children. There they learn how to trust dogs, they help him through his tricks with treats, ask questions, and pet and cuddle him all they need to. He doesn't care which hospital we go to as long as people are loving and admiring him and he has many people to lean on and look at with that loving look of his. Tylor found his calling and he does an amazing job at it. I couldn't be prouder and I think that Cooper Hospital is just as proud to call Tylor their own.
